Traveling
to China
The trip to China lasts about 10 to 12 days.
The first 2 to 3 days are spent actually sight seeing. The Great Wall of
China among other landmarks and interesting sights are part of the trip
when traveling to China and it is said to be a great experience. The
adoption becomes legal and final in China after some more paperwork. In
addition, there is a visit to a physician while in China. Most of the time
couples travel to different provinces depending on where there child is
from. There are times that couples visit the orphanage that the baby lived
in but this does not happen all of the time.
There are many sites on line where tips for traveling to China can be
found. In general, the idea is to try and stay relaxed and plan ahead.
When we rush, things are forgotten and there is lots to bring and lots to
do. Depending the age of the child, diapers, bottles, food etc… all need
to be packed. Also, band aids, infant Tylenol with droppers and cream for
mosquitoes should be taken. Casual and comfortable clothes should be taken
and planning to do laundry while there is helpful since it is a long trip.
The weather in China is similar to that of the US according to seasons.
Fall seems to be the best time to visit because summer seasons tend to be
very humid.
While traveling in China, it is important to respect the people. The
people of China have a lot of respect for those coming to adopt their baby
girls. They are generally happy to see these babies be brought into a safe
and secure home and be taken care of. Respect for there culture though is
important. It is very different then what most people are used to so it is
a bit of a culture shock to most visitors.
Most if not all couples traveling to China stay in the Swan Hotel. This
seems to be a well accommodated hotel equipped with a play room for new
babies.
